Little ears matter more than you think.

Children learn about the world through what they hear. From their first days of life, hearing plays a critical role in speech development, language skills, learning, social connections, and confidence.

When hearing difficulties go undetected, they can impact far more than a child’s ability to hear sounds.

We provide specialized hearing evaluations and treatment for children of all ages, from newborns to teenagers, helping families get answers, support, and peace of mind.

Pediatric services we provide

Newborn hearing follow-up testing

Pediatric hearing evaluations, and hearing loss diagnosis

Pediatric balance and vestibular evaluations

Hearing aid evaluations, fittings, and maintenance

Auditory processing evaluations

Family education and support

Sometimes hearing concerns are obvious, but sometimes the signs are easy to miss.

Many parents tell us they knew something was off, but couldn’t quite identify what it was. Trust your instincts.

Undiagnosed hearing difficulties can impact your child’s speech development, language acquisition, reading skills, social interactions, self-confidence, and emotional development. The earlier we identify concerns, the sooner we can provide support that helps children succeed both inside and outside the classroom.

Signs your child may have difficulties hearing:

  • Struggles to follow directions

  • Has delayed speech or language development

  • Appears inattentive at school

  • Misunderstands conversations

  • Seems frustrated in noisy environments

  • Experiences academic challenges without a clear explanation

We provide specialized care for every stage.

Newborn Hearing Follow-Up

Most babies receive a hearing screening shortly after birth. While many pass, some newborns require additional testing to confirm healthy hearing. If your baby did not pass their newborn hearing screening, don’t panic.

A screening is not a diagnosis. We provide comprehensive follow-up evaluations to determine whether hearing loss is present and help families understand their next steps.

Infant & Toddler Hearing Evaluations

Testing young children requires specialized techniques, equipment, and patience.

Our team uses age-appropriate testing methods to accurately evaluate hearing while keeping children comfortable and engaged.

School-Age Children & Teens

As children grow, hearing challenges can sometimes become more noticeable in the classroom, during sports, or in social situations. Comprehensive evaluations help identify hearing concerns that may be affecting learning, communication, or daily life.

Balance matters, too.

Children can experience dizziness and balance disorders just like adults, but they may not always have the words to explain what they’re feeling. Instead of saying “I’m dizzy,” a child might seem unusually clumsy, avoid certain activities, struggle with coordination, or complain that things are moving or spinning.

The vestibular system, located in the inner ear, works closely with the brain, eyes, and body to help children maintain balance and understand where they are in space. When that system isn’t working as it should, it can affect much more than steadiness.

Signs of a pediatric balance or vestibular concern may include:

  • Frequent falls or unusual clumsiness

  • Delayed balance or motor milestones

  • Dizziness or spinning sensations

  • Difficulty walking or staying steady

  • Motion sensitivity or car sickness

  • Trouble seeing clearly while moving

  • Avoiding playground equipment, sports, or activities involving movement

  • Headaches accompanied by dizziness or balance concerns

  • Ongoing symptoms following a concussion

Because dizziness and imbalance can have many possible causes, a thorough evaluation can help determine whether the vestibular system may be contributing to your child’s symptoms.

What to Expect During a Pediatric Hearing Evaluation

Every child is unique, and so is every appointment. Your visit may include:

1. A conversation about your concerns.

We’ll talk about developmental milestones, school performance, medical history, and any symptoms you’ve noticed.

2. Age-appropriate testing.

We tailor hearing and vestibular testing to your child’s symptoms, age, developmental level, and comfort. Not every child needs the same tests, and we’ll explain what we recommend and why.

3. Thorough explanation of results.

You’ll leave with a clear understanding of what we found and what it means for your child.

4. Personalized recommendations.

If treatment or monitoring is needed, we’ll guide you through the next steps and answer your questions along the way.

Pediatric Hearing Aids & Ongoing Support

When hearing aids are recommended, proper fitting and follow-up care are essential. Children’s hearing needs change as they grow, making monitoring and adjustments especially important.

At Mt. Harrison Audiology, we can help with every step along the way. This includes pediatric hearing aid fittings, hearing aid programming and adjustments, ongoing monitoring, family education and support, and coordination with schools and healthcare providers.

Our goal is to help children hear their best in real-world environments where learning and communication happen every day.

When it comes to your child’s hearing, trust your instincts.

Early identification can make a lifelong difference.
