Diabetes and Hearing Loss
People with diabetes have double the risk of developing hearing loss than those with normal blood sugar.
Those with diabetes are encouraged to have yearly eye exams to monitor for retinopathy, or to have their feet examined for monitor for neuropathy. The same type of micro-vascular damage can occur in the inner ear, affecting both hearing and balance. If you have diabetes, you should also have your hearing checked.
Untreated hearing loss can have severe consequences for brain health, social interaction, and even understanding important health recommendations from your physician.
